Job Description Experimental Response Cinema is looking for a creative, organized and detail-oriented individual who will: – manage ERC social media posts, email campaigns, and website updates/editing – create and launch new organizational/workflow strategies with the co-programmers – assist with the planning and execution of 3 upcoming screenings – fine-tune branding and graphic design – facilitate accessibility accommodations – facilitate outreach to new and existing audience communities This person will report to ERC’s co-programmers, ideally on a weekly basis. Who We Are Experimental Response Cinema is an Austin-based film programmers collective. We program experimental film and video, artists film, underground film, video art, installation art, the poetic film, the essay film, avant-garde cinema, and more. Our screenings take place at locations generously provided by a variety of partner organizations. ERC’s current programmers are Liz Rodda, Jennifer Stob and Ana Treviño. Duties and Responsibilities – Create website posts, email blasts and social media content that advertises our upcoming events regularly and effectively – Create between-screenings content on these multiple platforms that stimulates engagement with our microcinema – Provide beginner to intermediate graphic design/layout for email publicity and film note templates – Become and stay fully up-to-date on best practices for accessible content for those in our audience with disabilities – Prepare transcripts, audio descriptions and/or alt text captions as needed – Compile information on local translators/interpreters – Compile information on potential non-profits for future partnerships – Proofread, revise and update website – Create and maintain budget spreadsheet – Assist with timeline, planning, logistics, and execution of screenings – Develop flow charts, calendars, agendas and/or other productivity tools that ERC can implement and maintain – Facilitate periodic meetings to educate co-programmers on organizational, communication and outreach strategies under development – Brainstorm outreach to targeted communities with whom ERC would like to develop stronger connections and better serve through programming, for example: East Side residents, Austinites of color, students and under 18 years, migrants, seniors, and families with children – Brainstorm virtual community strategies (Discord use, other apps) – Coordinate selected outreach projects to targeted in-person and virtual communities – Attend and assist from setup to breakdown at ERC screenings – Complete TABC certification training (optional) – Photography at ERC screenings (optional) Minimum Qualifications – Strong written and verbal communication skills – Highly organized and detail-oriented – Pragmatic, systematic and punctual – Experience editing and adding content to websites – Experience working in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator and/or InDesign – Experience creating social media content – Full proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Mailchimp, WordPress, Instagram, Facebook – Open-minded and passionate about moving image art and experimental media – Demonstrated capability exercising initiative and exploring creative solutions in a work environment – Ability to work independently and complete tasks in a timely and accurate fashion – Flexible with others and truly enjoys teamwork – Knowledge of ERC programming and Central Texas film offerings – Experience organizing, tracking tasks, and scheduling for multiple projects at once – Ability to carry items for events, up to 30 lbs. for short distances – Reliable transportation – Located in Central Texas Preferred Qualifications – Experience with digital photography and video editing – Experience writing for digital or print publications including blogs, newspapers and/or magazines – Experience with event planning and coordination – Member of one or more of the communities with whom ERC wants to develop stronger connections and better serve through programming, for example: East Side residents, Austinites of color, students and under 18 years, migrants, seniors, and families with children – Bachelor degree (completed or in process) in relevant field, such as education, communications, art or film and media – Valid driver’s license Pay, Benefits, & Work Environment This is a part-time position for a 4-month period, beginning immediately upon hire. Approximately 50-60 work hours, total: 16-20 hours per screening for 3 screenings in January, February and March 2024. The hourly rate will be $20 to 24/hour, depending on experience. Work hours are entirely flexible. Preferred start date is December 20, 2023. No benefits. Work is primarily remote, but you must be Texas-based.
